NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The father of Queens college student, who is accused of planning an attack on New York City landmarks on behalf of ISIS, is speaking up for his son.

Federal authorities accuse 20-year-old Munther Omar Saleh of preparing an explosive device to detonate in the New York metropolitan area.

The criminal complaint says, Saleh, a U.S. citizen, has violent jihadist beliefs and is a “fervent supporter” of the Islamic State.

But Saleh’s father stands by his son.

“They were setting him up with the informants and they should know,” he told CBS2’s Jessica Schneider. “I’m not going to say anything else but that.”
